Programming of the keypad and setting each room’s sensitivity is also part of the job. Backup batteries, keypad programming, sirens and security features are all tested after installation, and any defects are quickly reported. Security installation technicians follow safety protocols and clean up the job site afterwards. You would also be responsible for explaining the new system to customers and answering any of their questions.
Equipment a security system installer would use on a daily basis include soldering equipment, electronic testing devices, precision electronic repair tools, and meters such as a voltmeter, ammeter or ohmmeter. Hand and power tools include drills, hammers, screwdrivers, wire pullers, cable strippers and pliers. Most installers will also need a laptop or tablet for programming the system.
